Rebecca Black? WHO?

For those of you who are still unaware of the song ‘Friday’ that is taking over the internet please click here to watch.

Last week, I casually logged onto my twitter as I usually do and was bombarded with tweets about a “Rebecca Black.” At first I thought she was some celebrity that I had read over in the magazines or overlooked on T.V. but then I came to realize shes a new “music artist,” who has now hit iTunes. I watched the music video and as the song progressed and the lyrics got more ridiculous, I realized how low our standards are set to become a recognized artist. She may not be a good performer but she has been a worldwide trending topic on twitter for the past week, and number 26 on the iTunes chart. She is a 13 year old girl who got money from her parents to work on her own music video and somehow it became a sensation. The lyrics are pathetic and the music video doesn’t even make sense. What is a 13 year old doing “partying”? I have truly never felt so bad for our future. Why is it that these dumb videos are promoted or in some cases applauded? This trend needs to stop immediately.

Thought you should see these two articles–or rather, an article and an interview with the author of the article, trying to figure out why we hate RB:
