‘Gay Cure’ App

On February 15th, an iTunes store app by Exodus International, an anti-gay Christian organization, was released. This organization claims to “provide support for individuals who want to recover from homosexuality.” There has been more than 100,000 people who have signed an online petition for Apple to remove this app from the iTunes store. The organization claims that the app “contains no objectionable material.” The Change.org petition is startled that the organization believes that there is “no objectionable content” to the app. They say, “Exodus’ message is hateful and bigoted. They claim to offer ‘freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ’ and use scare tactics, misinformation, stereotypes and distortions of LGBT life to recruit clients.” Apple has not taken the app down despite the number of signatures. The app is a portable version of Exodus International’s website and they intend to broaden its reach with the app. Will apps like this cause problems for Apple in the future?
