Last Friday ( the 18th), there was a shooting in Poughkeepsie. Lee Welch shot and killed his wife in front of their three-year-old daughter, then tried to take off with his daughter. Officer John Falcone stepped up to stop him and Welch shot and killed him. As a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, I thought it was sad to hear that an officer was killed trying to protect the public. Today was declared a Day of Remembrance in Poughkeepsie, as his funeral was today. CBS reported on the funeral, including video and audio footage, and quotes from people who knew Falcone. He has posthumously been promoted to detective, and awarded a medal of honor for him actions.
