Art Museums In Our Homes

Posted: February 8, 2011 by clgiblin in Uncategorized

On February 1st, Google announced its Art Project, which allows access to 17 museums all of the world, including New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Tate Britain of London, and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Users are able to digitally tour the art museum from their homes without having to go through the trouble of buying a plane ticket and traveling there. Viewers are not only able to view the art work, but they can also zoom in to see the details of the piece of work. Users can also create a collection of their favorite pieces of art. This is fantastic news to some of us who have always wanted to travel but cannot, but will this new development cause people to never see the works of art in person and create problems for the museums?
