Viral Video Frenzy

Am I the only one who has become amazed how fast content appears on the internet these days? It seems like once something happens in real time within minutes it can be viewed on the internet. As a culture we have become obsessed with making real life viral. The sudden craze was exemplified this past week right here at Marist College. For those of you out of the loop, the Marist College Men’s Basketball Team was upset by a buzzer-beater half court shot with 2.0 seconds left by Manhattan College this week. Not only was the shot unbelievable but what happened as a result was even more outrageous. The video was up on youtube within minutes. It didn’t hurt that this game was broadcasted on the MSG network, regardless news of this shot traveled like lighting. By evening it was already appearing on Deadspin and Sportscenter Top 10. I realize that technology is evolving everyday but it just shocks me sometimes how fast news can travel. Also the amount of content that is on YouTube these days is unreal. It has become so popular there is even a show about it, for those of you who have seen Tosh.O. It automatically made me think how obsessed we have become with the online world. Have the years of exclusivity past and is everything from now on going to appear online?
